“THERE IS NO LOVE STRONGER THAN THE BOND BETWEEN FAMILY MEMBERS, AND CARING FOR YOUR LOVED ONES HAS EVEN BEEN SHOWN TO PROVIDE HEALTH BENEFITS.”

Though COVID-19 has brought many challenges, it has also pushed us to explore new opportunities for our clients. One of the new options we are focusing on is Family Care. This approach will allow family caregivers to maintain a balance between their work schedule and caregiving responsibilities by receiving compensation through Medicaid for the time they devote to caregiving.

The first step to identifying if Family Care is a good fit for a family is to see if a client already has someone caring for them daily. In the past, recognizing and identifying current caregivers within a family was difficult, since most family members view their role as a familial responsibility. It was also not routine for care providers to ask about possible caregivers when first consulting them about care.

Now with help from the CARE Act, new discussions about how to properly identify family caregivers have been on the rise. According to an article from Seniorlink, the best interactions to start implementing when first consulting with families includes:

  • Asking patients for permission to talk to family members to learn about caregiving needs and routines.

  • Incorporating a caregiver assessment to ensure providers understand what a family caregiver is able and willing to do.

  • Asking which family members should be involved in advanced care planning conversations.

There is no love stronger than the bond between family members, and caring for your loved ones has even been shown to provide health benefits overall. If you meet certain qualifications through Medicaid and would like to be paid to take care of your loved one, we are here to assist you with Family Care!
