Choosing The Correct Care

Family First Companion Care knows that top quality care comes from building strong relationships in family-oriented environments. Through these relationships, caretakers gain valuable information and feedback to improve the everyday lives of their clients and to ensure their clients’ independence wherever they call home. Since 2008, Family First has made sure that clients are always first in service, responsiveness and customer care.

Choosing the Correct Care

While Family First is a personal service agency, we believe in leading clients to the care best-suited for their needs, even if this means referring them to a different agency. A general understanding of what services each care type offers is very important in the decision-making process.

Personal Service Agencies can go wherever the client is, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living, and private residences. They provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living, such as personal hygiene and medication reminders. 24-hour care is available.

Home Health Agencies are in-home providers of rehabilitative services. They include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, a nurse and a bath aid. They are 100% funded by Medicare, they do not offer 24-hour care and clients must have a doctor’s order to receive them.

Hospice has a primary objective of comfort care. Clients do not have to be actively dying to receive care and everything associated with their diagnosis is paid 100% by Medicare. They receive a nurse, bath aid, chaplain and sufficient support. Hospice does not offer 24-hour care.

Palliative Care is the nursing management of chronic conditions. If a patient has a chronic condition that needs management they have a nurse practitioner that visits their house and a social worker. Chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s, congestive heart failure, COPD, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s or ALS are all considered chronic disease processes. As their condition worsens, they receive more care. This is an additional service paid for by Medicare.
